It should be easier to change the Head Unit on a e36

It should be easier to change the Head Unit on a e36.
because its not all electronicfied like and e9x with multiple buses
but most here choose not to change there head units
because it's such a pain for and e9x with multiple side effects.

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...creations.html

the above board may have some more specific information on head units.

I would go to cnet for head unit reviews.

Agree with ctuna.... but if I did put in a new head unit, I think the flip out screen version is good for the e9x because it puts the screen a little higher up.

Good point.... my Nav on my E92 is kinda low... but I'm not going to upgrade my E92... I want to upgrade my other car with all the features like HD Radio/Satellite Radio/Bluetooth/Nav/Pandora/DVD etc...

Side effects are dependent on options.

head unit

If you have L7 the L7 amp will be useless as nothing interfaces with it
but the BMW head unit because of the optic connection.
If you have any option that connects to the MOST Bus
and or uses the head unit for the options such as
PDC, CDC, BMW assist, Sirius Radio , BMW Bluetooth they will not
work and may generate errors.
The worst one is that the BMW diagnostic computer ( at the dealership)
will not be able to update software or write new values to replaced modules. There are some workarounds to some of these problems with a coding setup.

I have no experience with any of the mentioned units, but I don't think I'd replace my OEM headunit with anything other than a Pioneer AppRadio. Android in the dash, man.

Nevermind, I'm not sure AppRadio is quite what I thought it was.

Well this is the e90 forum so don't expect much help as far as installing it. I'm sure it would be simpler in the e36, but I doubt anyone here has actually done it.

Also most people don't change the head unit on an e90 so you won't find much info on head units on this site.
