WG rattle bulletin at dealer
Just dropped the vehicle off the extension of wastegate rattle. Didn't look too good. The SA said that it only applies if I were to fail the emissions test. I told him about the bulletin and how it says to rev up to 3.5k and and let off and that is the noise. He wrote that down and said they will see what they can do. I have my fingers crossed. Any advice to help the situation?
Basically, if he tells me they wont cover it I will print out the bulletin from home point out to him where it says "if wastegates are found defective" if he says they are not defective then I will say well if they are making noise doesnt mean they are defective... Anyway I will keep it posted. Kinda disappointed! I hear about all these success stories on here about WG rattle fixed by the dealer and I want it fixed too!! |

Yah. My SA got me a little disappointed on the phone too.
Its rattling pretty bad so hopefully that should be enough though. They said I have to either have a lose of boost or have a crack in my charge pipe. But why would they want to wait for that when they know its messed up v |

UPDATE: SA said they looked up multiple bulletins and that for the bulletin regarding revving the engine up to 3-5k and letting go and repeating 7 times and they could not verify that. THe rest of the noise they said is normal..
I guess my wastegate rattle isnt that bad if they could not verify that. I feel like i could make the noise repeat 7 times, but whatever. |

Your dealer is simply not cooperating. That bulletin is definitely valid, and applies, and it's a well known problem. Ask to see the manager and print it for him. If he wont authorize it, contact BMWNA. I just had mine fixed, they ignored me the first time I went in (they tried to tell me it was a normal noise and I was uninformed) I made the manager come with a tech, the tech recognized the wastegate rattle instantly, much to the chagrin of his manager (I'm 19, he didn't like that I wasn't buying the "normal noise" bull$hit )
Got the car back today and the rattle was fixed, they replaced actuators under warranty. Paid nothing. However, they screwed up re-assembling the car and I got a limp mode on my short ride home. Back to the dealer for the 3rd time... TL;DR: Push them harder and get the manager/BMWNA involved. they should fix their faulty turbo for you. Better luck with the limp mode when they return the car to you |

My rattle wasn't terrible either, but just loud enough to hear when I let off the throttle with the windows down. I'm under full warranty still, so I wanted it fixed. They'll fight you on it and tell you its normal, but ask for a tech to come look at it and listen with you. He'll recognize the noise and make the service advisor look like an idiot.
