Lets talk about Winter tires on stock wheels (335i coupe)

Tirerack says to use 225/40VR18 in front and back on the stock 18" sport wheels. Will that work even though the wheels are different widths?

Not too narrow?

235s will work but for driving in snow a narrower tire will give you better traction

Not 235/45R18...too tall. 235/40R18 should fit, but as stated above 225/40R18 would be preferred in snow.

a bit off topic but can i put non rft snow tires on my 18inch factory wheels and then just buy new summer rims/tires?

Gary,

Do you think there will be a 255/35/18" winter tire option coming out?

I understand the 225 will be better for snow but I want to stick with my stock rims and I'm concerned that it will look goofey with 225 8.5" front and 225 9" rear.

I already have a 19" summer setup and I really don't want to buy another set of rims.

225 works fine all the way around... You cant even tell its a wider wheel. BTW stock is 8 in front and 8.5 in back

We may have a 255 width option, but I won't know for sure until around September.

I seem to be a geek. My manager called me a walking BMW encyclopedia since I seem to know all these weird things.
I found Pirelli advertising they make the stock OEM 18" RFT snow tires, think you guys will carry them?

Yes. thats what most of my customers run for winter tires. I wont do that, with my driving 225s wont ever have traction. I will be running stock sizes

Crap didnt think about traction when theres NOT snow on the ground.

For $100 more i can go with 235/40VR18 all around. Better?

I wont do stock sizes only because im too cheap.

235 will work, but it will do better in snow with 225s. It just depends on your driving style.

I was waiting for the larger tires sizes to come out and didn't know you can put a 225 or 235 in the rear without issue. Please let me know what you decide to go with, I may do the same.
