Visiting st. petersburg/tampa soon

Need advice on what beach hotel to stay at. Needs to have nice pool, be real close to beach and right in the middle of everything going on in that area

Just for vacation or you need to be close to somewhere particular? If not just go to clearwater.

Vacation yes, flying in to st. Petersburg/tampa airport so don't want to pay too much for a taxi/shuttle to get to where Im staying.

Recommend a few hotels that are popular for ages 21-40?

Do a search for hotels on clearwater Beach, and St Pete Beach. You'll find a lot of options to choose from.

The Don Cesar is a classic. But similar to the Empress Hotel in Victoria BC if you aren't into "Old" world "charm" you might be better served elsewhere. That being said "the Don" isn't bad and the service is top notch. Just wasn't impressed with the room for the $$$.

Have fun in Florida, hit the beaches, then hit Ybor City. Play your cards even marginally correct and you'll take a Coed home without much effort...

If you are looking for the a good party atmosphere you can't beat postcard inn on St. Pete Beach. They have a nice pool, bar on the beach and is right on the beach. Reasonably priced too.

The nicest place on the beach is Don Cesar but will obviously be expensive. Two good resort style places to look into are Trade Winds and the Sirata. All of these hotels are on St. Pete Beach.

clearwater is much more geared towards families and younger kids, if no kids going, you are better off on st. pete beach.

ill put my vote in for Post card inn, there are also several other bars within walking distance, and usually there are good looking girls lounging around there.
if clearwater, aqualea is really nice, but expensive.

and you are looking at about a $50-60 cab ride each way if you are flying into TPA

So post card inn or Sirata. I was looking at Sirata.
Any other recommendations?
We defintely want to be able to walk to the bars but not if it means staying in a bad area. If there is a bad area

I second st pete beach or clearwater beach. Single go for the former, family the latter.

Like everyone has already stated if you are coming down to party St. Pete is where you want to be.

Post Card Inn (aka... PCI) is a great place to stay. Stayed there plenty times. PCI is really good on holiday weekends (Memorial Day, Labor Day, 4th of July, etc..) and hit or miss on non-holiday weekends. If you are looking to party and check out some bars and clubs all of that is located in downtown St. Pete. Downtown St. Pete is awesome. There are endless amounts of bars and clubs all within walking distance of each other. But there really isn't much as far as "Fun" hotels in downtown St. Pete. The other problem is that PCI is on the gulf and downtown is on the bay which are about 10 miles apart. My friends and I took a cab from PCI to downtown and it was around $45 for three of us (one way). So the trek back and forth can get pretty expensive. However, if you're looking for night life, you definitely want to go to downtown St. Pete.
