Can this be permanetly removed?

Can the reinforcement plate be permanently removed? My exhaust is hitting this making a rattle (exhaust has been modified slightly).

Plate I am referring to (mine is black)

Doubt it, but even so I would take it to a shop and fix the problem not the symptom.

It was a "booger on the weld hitting the other pipe, fixing it as we speak.

My 09 xi has this plate? Are you sure yours doesnt? I drove around without the plate for a week while I waited for some nylon spacers to drop the plate down 1/2 an inch. My plate was hitting my exhaust due to a mod as well. No problems with the car while it was off but I chose to put it back on

I have a much smaller one on my 08, but either way I would fix the problem properly and not just remove something that obviously has a purpose for being there! If it is just that the exhaust can't be made to fit without hitting, I would heat wrap the area or something to stop the rattle before I removed something.

Just add some washers to give it some height so it will clear it.

I guess I never checked that closely since I haven't changed my exhaust but you're right, I went out and checked and my xi has it also.

That's exactly what I did.. I used some nylon washers to drop it a little after I installed my mid pipes...
