Anybody removed the front lower grill?

I've searched but couldn't find anything substantial.

Do you have to remove the front bumper to remove the lower grill?

Is there a DIY on this?

Any pics?

Yes you have to remove the front bumper. I'll be doing this mod this weekend btw. I'm using the great details provided by this DIY:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80133

I'll take some pics showing removal of the lower grill pieces. I'm sure it's quite obvious though once the front bumper is off.

Took them off when switched headlights. Looks more aggressive.

Please let us know how that goes. I'd like to remove it and get rid of the front grills (for a more aggressive look), but I'm kinda intimidated by the whole process.

Thanks that's what my wife says. It looks good don't touch it. I just don't like the look of the grey lower mesh. I think a black mesh would just look so much better. I'm also replacing the kidney grills with a version that is red on the outer part with black slats. I picked it all up from Unique Designs (though there is a paint issue I'm currently working with them to resolve so the kidney grills will happen later.)

I have a question? Do these lower mesh pieces clip in like the kidneys do? My reason for asking is if I dont give a crap about salvaging them I would opt to just cut them out and snap in new ones. Would this work? rather than taking off the bumper

Yes there are clips. You just can't cut it out and pop it back in from what I can tell. btw, because of kidney grill issue I won't be doing this project for another 2 weeks. I'll share how it went when I do it.

I don't want it back in. I just want it off...

I rather cut it, than mess with removing the front bumper. I'll do more research.

Are you just wanting it out and not replacing it with a new one? If you are replacing it with a new one you will need to clip it in and I can't see how you will be able to do that without taking the bumper off. Let us know if you find a solution, because, like you, I don't want to remove the bumper either and could care less about the original mesh.
