People can be such t**ts. Mine was hit back in January by a carelessly parked 4x4, but in the dark and the rain I didn't notice until the next day. I remember when I had my brand new Puma, a woman in an old shed, opened the door into it whilst I was sitting in it. The noise was horrendous and the damage clear to see, but she categorically refused to admit that she'd damaged it. Her husband became very abusive and threatening and as our daughter was with us and only 7 at the time, I didn't want to start a street brawl. I asked him to do the decent thing and cough up, but there was no chance.

Not wrong mate (except the stalking! - see below), but remember, some people, when they think they have committed the perfect crime and got away with it, discover that someone has traced them, may well be pretty freaked out. You never know, they may even cough up. Especially if you claim to be a fully paid up member of the Essex Massive You're often not dealing with the most intelligent/observant people here, after all. However, they may be decent people who didn't realise they have done the damage and own up when challenged (as happened last time to me - it was my neighbour though - his red paint on my car, my blue paint on his car, and my car was parked when he hit it) in which case it's money in your pocket rather than the bodyshop's.

I know there's a good chance there won't be any result in most instances but if it makes people realise that they can't always get away scot free then it's worth it IMHO. It's got to be better having a punt than having absolutely no idea who did it at all?

No it's not stalking, DVLA will sell for £2.50 (oh yes, sell - for their profit, not yours) your details to a 'legitimate' third party. What's 'legitimate' is anyone's guess but to make a profit from £2.50 each time I can't imagine the checks are too thorough. They quote hit and runs as one of the reasons to do so, for the other party to try and make a recovery, but it might have to go through your insurance in that case.

Pretty much. Then my dad's mate proceeded to reverse into the bumper. So full driver's side respray and then new bumper...now needing 2 alloys repairing and it's only 9 months old. Think I'll get shot of the damned thing and buy a new one.
