iOS 7 : iOS in Car Apps not available for BMW, that sucks !

Damn, I was watching the wwdc and was getting excited at this new feature, but finaly it won't be supported on bmw cars.. for now.

the feature allow you to show the screen of your iPhone directly to the screen of the car, as is. Pretty awesome, since must car user interface become old and outdated fast, just think about the navigation system...

mercedes
volvo
Honda
ferrari
nissan
Chevrolet
kia
Hyundai
jaguar

and more .. are getting it by 2014

Bummer. You can always do a DIY iPad install that'd probably look and function way better than this stuff though.

Getting it in 2014 not by 2014. You can also expect the auto makers don't want to simply hand over the keys of their infotainment systems to Apple so they'll probably take their time and hedge their bets with their own UIs.

Not to mention that by 2014 there won't be many iPhones around. At least not owned by BMW owners...

iPhone, Apple... that little start up probably won't even be around in a couple years doesn't surprise me that car manufacturers don't want to support it hehehhe

Automakers are definitely hesitant to give up control, but the value for them becomes even less clear considering how quickly Android is taking marketshare away from iOS.

Apple will always be a big player, but they do not rule the marketplace in the way they like to think they do.

The better question is, do you really care? Judging by all the bluetooth adapter threads here, most would rather avoid plugging their phone in if they can. Personally, my IDEAL situation would be a headunit that had nothing to do with my phone but that was equally powerful and equally well connected. $20 a month data plan for the car (or tether to your phone) gets you a full OS in the car with apps like waze, pandora, rdio, etc etc without touching your phone at all? Sign me up. Bonus round, an app that lets you connect with your phone for diagnostics and remote unlock/panic/start/etc. Lots of cars these days have the latter part.

In fact, that's just what I'm trying to build. What apple's announced is a pioneer appradio, where the Parrot Asteroid Smart is where it's at. Not to say I wouldn't take it over a regular old vanilla headunit like I've got now, but it's a bit lame in comparison.

Give me that and door-mounted hidden inductive charging for my phone in my pocket and I'm all aboard, apple be damned.

Amen! I just need my phone to make phone calls when I'm driving, so BT itself is just fine. I never plug my phone in unless I need to charge it. Otherwise I have an old iPod feeding my music.

Don't get me wrong, I want more than just an iPod with static music. But I'd also like not to remove the $300, battery-powered device from my pocket for the privilege of listening to pandora on my $33k gas-powered one. Seems kind of silly, really.

I'd rather have a real phone instead
(loving my HTC One).

If I paid $2000+ for the iDrive option with built in navigation, I don't want to just have iOS overlaid on top of it. Phone and media integration is fine. I don't need or want iOS to completely replace iDrive.

+1 currently like how bmw has developed the idrive system over the years; it has a certain look and feel and not generic (like a Kia for example).
