Looks like I'm also going to be needing a body shop. While driving into work, the truck in front of me sent a piece of rusty metal debris flying. I initially thought it just hit my windshield (leaving a big rusty scratch) but when I got to work, I say that it hit my hood first. There's a nice 5 inch scratch (down to metal at the impact site) on my hood. It's more than I'd want to try to fix on my own.

Got a quote today from Tulley on fixing the scratch...full hood repaint required since it's a full-thickness scratch. They're quoting $708, sound reasonable? This includes primer, paint and clear.

Of course, I'll have to get the hood portion of my clear bra also put back on afterwards.

Dick's Auto Body in Somerville does really nice work. They do a lot of BMW, Mercedes, etc... They advertise in the Boston BMWCCA magazine.

They replaced the rear bumper on my X5 twice (2 different accidents) and both times it came out perfect.

I heard about Factory Collision... any other shops?

Basically, I need to get a roof spoiler (knock-off) painted and installed.... there may be a little extra work to it, too.

Update:

I just got my car back and the work was great!

I had a scracth about the side of my hand and a big dent on the bumper near the right muffler. I went to few body shop and most of them telling me to get a new bumper... or charge me 600-800 for repair. I went to Shrewsbury certified collision repair and the repair was 412! Highly recommended if you guys live around there.

I just wanted to tank you for your advice. After reading your post, I immediately called Dick's to take care of a collision in which the whole rear quarter panel had to be taken off. The manager Kevin explained the whole process. He showed me similar cars (BMW, MB, Porsches) in which they were doing similar work (just to know what they would be doing to my car). Dick's autobody did a wonderful job from the quality of their job to the professionalism of the staff. I highly recommend them and will bring all my cars for any collision repair.

Good to hear that. They have been in business for a long time and it is because they are good at what they do..
