Engine shaking under high boost

Hey guys,

I'm making this thread mainly to document a problem for others who may have it, and also to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

About 2 years ago, my car started shaking violently if I floored it (it was bone stock). It threw a code for Cylinder 4 Misfire. After a LONG time of troubleshooting and getting nowhere, I broke down and replaced all the spark plugs, ignition coils, and 4 of the 6 injectors (I got a good deal on 4...). Turns out the metal mounting tab on Injector #4 was broken off! Recoded for the injectors and all was well.

Until last weekend. I now have JB4 on map 5, and on a road trip started having the same issue suddenly one time I floored it, but this time had codes P3090 and P112F. Not being a fool, I took off the engine cover, and sure enough; there was a little metal tab sitting on top of the engine, from Injector #5 (I didn't replace 5 or 6). So I overnighted some replacements and replaced #5 and #6, and the problem is gone!

Has anyone else had the issue of these injectors' tabs breaking off? I'm assuming they then did not seat correctly and bad stuff would happen under high cylinder pressure, but that's just a theory. I know that replacing them fixed it...

I know nothing like this came up when I searched for it, so I wanted something to be here documenting this problem for others. Hopefully that helps!

I recall someone making a thread recently and wondering what a small metal tab was.... it was the injectors tab by no accident. It seems to becoming increasingly common.

Thread was called "What is this" (or something like that). A title that is not helpful to the community. Let this be a lesson for people making threads to make your thread searchable so others can learn

Yeah, I was shocked when it happened to me AGAIN a year after replacing 4 of the injectors. With those odds, I'm amazed it isn't a more commonly discussed issue.

Luckily I was able to pick up some of the older -261 p/n injectors, so I didn't have to replace all 6 with BMW's fancy new "incompatible" injectors.

Luckily it's VERY easy to diagnose. Remove engine cover. Do you see a little metal tab sitting next to an injector?
