it seems it depends on ecu more than if its LCI or Not. Some early LCIs can be coded via OBD. During my research its something I discovered. You need your ECU read and then its things like the check codes that can tell you. Having tried the CDT box myself its not a bad unit. However did have few starting issue. Since then gone BMW kit way and its brilliant and all standard BMW warranty issues are not there.
If you can get it mapped definetly Good Luck

I tried to MAP mine 320d but the ECU read was locked. Hence I had to take the DTUK CRD-T Route. And I am happy I did. the performance gain is super!
I did not want to remove the ECU for a Remap. The box gives you almost the same power as a Remap. Plus you can tune it to your liking. + - 0-20%.

i was planning on getting my 320D ED remapped mines a 2010 so ive got a feeling its a ecu out job which is bit of a problem as i dont want like the rest of yous want to effect the warranty as ive got about a year remaining. i was looking at the dtuk crd-t stage 2 box which looks like a good bit of kit but i'm getting mixed arguments as to getting the map or the box as is their any major problems with installing the box which may do owt to my engine or turbos

Well got my re map done last week and they had to take the ecu out as it couldnt be done from the obd port, which they said was NO problem. Hour and a half later the car had gone from 144bhp to 186bhp. Drives fantastic now and absolutley no problems at all, recommend it to anyone

I would be careful when considering tuning the 320d, 2009 models with 177bhp have gearboxes that have max input torque of 400nm, yet external tuners go beyond this, not really worth it considering the price of a new transmission. Bmw performance tune them, yet add a larger fan, intercooler and uprated torque converter.

I had my 08 320d remapped by Emaps recently and honestly cant fault Simon. The car is totally transformed and more economical even with me driving like i stole it.
I looked around and could not find a bad report about Simon which swung it for me. Re the gear box.....I understand its only the auto box that is rated to 400Nm of torque, manuals have a higher rating. |

Yes the manual gerbox is GS6-37DZ (370NM max) - less than the auto box!

Did you dyno-test that, before & after? It's not hard for a tuner to claim a certain power output, but most of them are only fictive.

I went down the bluefin path in the end, and also installed BMW Performance 600W fan, larger intercooler and exhaust.Got it all installed today, the fan was the only troublesome part, the power socket is different on the 600w fan , and just needed some bespoke wiring. The car seems a lot smoother/quieter, until you hit 3rd gear and the boost kicks in. The bluefin tune and the BMW performance hardware go well together.
