Which wheel size for these tires?

Hello guys,

I just went ahead and purchased these tires from TireRack:

Front: 225/40ZR18
Rear: 255/35ZR18

Now I'm shopping for wheels since 1 of my original wheels are bent but I'm confused as to what wheel size I need to purchase. These are the wheels I was thinking of buying:

http://www.mod bargains.com/Velocity-Motoring-Hyperblack-VB3-CSL-Style-Wheels.htm

I see numbers such as:

FRONT
18x8.5 ET40

REAR
18x9.5 ET22
18x9.5 ET33
18x9.5 ET45

I have no clue how to match the tires to these wheel numbers...

I have a 2007 335i Coupe E92 with 18" sports package.

Thanks for any help!

oh wow, you have a pic?

Also, if I don't want to go that wide on the wheels and say just 18x9 front and 18x9.5 rear, what ET number would I use for these wheels?

I really want the setup to look good with no stretching of tires.

We recommend 18x9.5 ET33 rear in your case. Generally our customers run 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 tires.

Thanks for the reply, but I already purchased these tires:

Michelin Pilot Super Sport
Front: 225/40ZR18
Rear: 255/35ZR18

I guess that config you mentioned above is out of the question? What would you recommend for the tires I purchased above and my specific car model and setup (Sports package)?

Guys, I really need to order these wheels and really need to know what specs to order them in. Can anyone please give me a clear answer before I make a huge mistake and buy the wrong wheels?

As stated earlier, my car has the Sports Package and stock 8" front and 8.5" rear.

Will the Michelin PPS that I purchased allow a setup of 8.5" front and 9.5" rear without tire stretching?

if so, what ET number do I need up front and rear?

Thanks for any help...

The tires you purchased are perfectly fine for the wheels, I was just saying that you could run wider if you wanted to.

The sizing we recommend is 18x8.5 ET35-40 front, and 18x9.5 ET33 rear.

Thanks VMR!!! I am just afraid of going too wide and then having some tire stretch. I really hate that look.

Thanks for your suggestion, I will go with those numbers. My car will have an inch wider in both front and rear from what it has now. Should look nice!!! :-)

You will be fine.

I have the same tires. Check out this link for future reference:

http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

My setup:

Front: 8.5x18 ET29, 225/40ZR18 Michelin Pilot SS
Rear: 9.5x18 ET23, 255/35ZR18 Michelin Pilot SS

This is a side view of how they look. See how meaty the sidewall is on the rims? Michelin PSS FTW!:

A great post from a fellow Virginian! lol

That link was awesome and really helped me visualize what all these numbers mean and how they interact with one another, superb.

UPS just dropped my tires off a few minutes ago. Damn those Michelin PSS are beautiful! I have to order the wheels!!!!!!

Guys, I am leaning toward these:

I'm also attaching a pic of my car...

WHEELS (VMR VB3 CSL Gunmetal):

FRONT - 18 x 8.5 ET40
REAR - 18 x 9.5 ET22

TIRES (Michelin PSS - Already purchased):

FRONT - 225/40ZR18
REAR - 255/35ZR18

Is this a good combo? I have the wheels in the shopping cart! hahaha Just looking for a bit more of support!

It's a bit too aggressive in the rear. Best bet would be to go ET33 and you would be safe.

OBTW, gunmetal looks awesome!

Cheers!

Hi Flip,

Yea, I've been talking to Michael at **********s and he also said ET22 was too aggressive for my car and did suggest ET33 in the rear.

Unfortunately, they didn't have the front VMR VB3 CSL in stock but I will probably go with the Velocity Motoring V710 Wheels in Gunmetal instead!!!

Using these specs:

WHEELS (Velocity Motoring V710 Gunmetal):

FRONT - 18 x 8.5 ET35
REAR - 18 x 9.5 ET33

TIRES (Michelin PSS - Already purchased):

FRONT - 225/40ZR18
REAR - 255/35ZR18

I attached a pic of the wheels...

Hey, Fly Boi!

Dude, excellent choice!

You are going to love those wheels and Michelin shoes on your ride. It's the best set of tires I have ever had on my buggy.

Due to our mild winters lately, I still have a set of Conti DWS on a second set that I used this past winter as my winter setup on 18-inch Style 269 reps with OEM specs (225/255), and that gave me the idea to get the Michelins at the same spec to avoid rubbing because my previous Hankooks at 235/265 occasionally rubbed in the back on large dips and sweepers:

Post pics and if you really want it more aggressive, 5mm spacers in front and 8mm spacers in back would be more than sufficient to give you that stance! Personally, I would be happy just the way it is, but you always have that flexibility with those offsets!

We should get together at a meet or event so you could show off your shoes and take a look at mine. Gunmetal is sooooo good when you are feeling lazy and don't want to wash the rims.... hahaha.

Cheers!

Hoser out
