I have an LCI 335 with the factory black-and-chrome paddle shifters and Mtech steering wheel. I'd like to upgrade my shifters to the M3 DCT ones, but I'm finding lots of conflicting information on this forum as to whether this is possible or not with an LCI car. I know they're plug-and-play with pre-LCI cars, but apparently not with LCI ones, so what do I need to do to get these up and running? Has anyone out there gotten these working?

My reason for the swap is so that I can get some paddle shifter extensions (only available for DCT shifters) because the LCI ones are just a bit too short for where I place my hands while driving.

Hey man don't know if this is what your after I myself have a 2010 LCI E90 factory Msport and I had that exact same steering wheel and paddle set up. I bought the BMW performance V2 electric wheel and also bought the M3 aluminum paddles because I heard they feel alot better as well its alot nicer then the bulky ones our came with. It was a straight swap I used my multi function buttons out of my msport wheel put the in my new wheel as well as the new paddles which also is only able to downshift with the left paddle and upshift with the right one ( the way it should have came from factory) everything worked and still works and was all plug and play

Thanks for the info/reply! Unfortunately, the problem seems to exist with 2011 and up cars, so your 2010 was still capable of a plug-and-play install.

For anyone interested, it seems that the solution was found in this thread:

Basically, the LCI paddles use a different current than other shifters. If the correct current is not found in the correct pins (see link above for details), the car assumes you do not have paddle shifters installed and you will lose their functionality (along with the functionality of going into DS mode). The best solution so far is to build a harness which adds the necessary resistors between the DCT shifters and the MF buttons on the wheel, according to this diagram:


Huge props to wanlong for figuring this out! Now I need to decide if I want to take the plunge and get a set of DCT shifters then attempt to build this harness myself!

Did you figure it out? I got M3 steering wheel with paddle shifters, but paddle shifters are not working as same problem as you posted thread. If you figure it out by diagram which diagram you draw, I just make harness wires with using resistors? please let me know.

Larger E90 paddles just came out from "pedalsales@bmwpedals.com" or go to BMWPedals.com. These 6 1/2 inch high quality aluminum paddles work great. They just stick to the back of factory paddles 06 on. I know "stick" sound questionable but they work great. They use super stickily double sided tape (which can be removed) and are easy to install. They do not move around and are solid once installed. I have a highly modified 07 335 that I track and these paddles work so much better than factory without removing the steering wheel.

I got these from BMWPedal.com or pedalsales@bmwpedals.com and I love them. 6 1/2 inches long , 30 minutes of practice before you install and they work great. I used them on the track for the first time last weekend and they work great.
