Overheat Error (2007 335i sport package)
I got a 2007 335i with Sport Package. Bought it since early 2007 and only recurring problem was the HPFP...but got it fixed a few times and it has been stable for over a year.
It is now at 93,000 miles and I recently have the "overheat" error message comes up. Does not matter if i am on local street or on the freeway, the overheat message would comes up. I pulled over and turned off the engine for a few minutes then it is okay again. Have anyone out there experience similar issue? could it be the thermostat sensor is not working? Some help would be greatly appreciated. (Oil change recently! Status is all Green on the display.) Thanks all.... |

Stuck thermostat or water pump. My car did it once but went away, have 30K miles on it since it happened and has not come back. If it happens repeatedly or does not go off, stop your car immediately and either get a tow or let it cool off and drive to the dealer asap! You could potentially damage your engine, head gasket, etc.

It may be the water pump or the thermostat as people have said, when it happened to me it went yellow then red almost immediately.
I would take the car in and have the error codes scanned, I *believe* there are errors thrown when the pump starts to go.. once it goes, you won't be able to drive the car at all, so if it looks like it's starting to fail I would get it fixed before it does. |

best thing to do would be change the thermostat first since its cheaper if problem is still re-occuring then its the electric water pump thats failing.

Had exactly the same issue in my 07 335i at 81,000 miles. Took mine into dealership and they replaced water pump and thermostat. So far, the problem seems to be fixed. But who knows for how long.

You do stat and pump at the same time. When you do the pump you change the stat good or bad while it's out.

2007 BMW 335i engine overheat
Recently, my 2007 335i had Engine overheat warning issue and went into limp mode. I took to the Berkeley BMW dealer they replace the Electrical Water Pump and the Thermostat.
I would like to know that did anyone file some kind of compliant to BMW North America? I felt that so many of people on the form had the issue. They should do a recall or reimburse us for the repair cost. |
