Injen DCI for N54 335i review
Installed the Injen DCI with a buddy of mine today since we had some free time. It was a PITA taking off the stock intake for the first time and the instructions that came with the intake didn't cover everything, so we had to google and youtube how to take certain parts off without breaking anything. Overall it was pretty straightforward. I was a little shocked when I checked the inside of one of the intake pipes to find poor quality work (see fourth photo). I wish the Injen air scoop covered both air scoop inlets instead of just one. The stock intake covered both inlets for maximum flow to the air filter. Surprisingly this intake setup isn't much louder than the stock intake. Photos are posted below and sorry for the dirtiness of the engine bay. Need to clean up tomorrow.
Why this intake system? Well, I like it's overall look and design. Biggest reason is because it has a C.A.R.B EO # for smog, so it's one less piece of equipment I have to worry about swapping to stock parts. Pricing wasn't too bad since I got a good deal, so it wasn't much more than the Afe setups. The wrinkle black color looks nice up close and from farther away it blends in with the engine bay a lot more than the chrome version of the same intake. In terms of performance I'm sure it will be comparable with most intake setup for our cars. This intake kit isn't designed to work with Active steering. Make sure to check your car to see if you have active steering or not. Wrinkle Black color blends in well with the engine bay and looks nice! For the price I'm not happy with the quality control. Notifying the vendor I purchased from and also Injen of this issue. Got the stock intake box out! That thing did not want to come out! Everything is installed except for the support bracket for the air scoop.

Holy crap you did that with the cowl on? The rear inlet must have been brutal to wrench on.
Next time get the cowl off, it makes the intake swap take about 3 minutes. |

Nice. How is the sound? Can you hear the turbo spool up?

If those are welding drips in photo 4 then I would remove these immediately.
Do you realize that if those drips break off you will have metal particles heading directly towards a spinning turbo???? That is complete negligence on the part of Injen. |

Been a long time since I had mine, but I'm 99% certain it was completely smooth inside. I would definitely replace it, as the other guys said.
