I had my original head unit on my 07 328 replaced due to dead pixels. The company that replaces them put in a refurbished one. Now my Bluetooth doesn't work. Is this a coding issue or a head unit issue?
Thanks.

The coding resides in the Head Unit for these settings it acts as a sort of server or controller
for the MOST Bus to which the TCU is connected.

I thing the coding board could tell you best how to get the correct values back in the car . It is my understanding the values may be duplicated in other modules and you might only have to do a reset to get them to reinitialize or you might have to go back in and change the appropriate options back to activ from nicht activ and rewrite the file.

Does this mean that every head unit has the Bluetooth functionality, it just needs to be activated via coding?

All of them have coding lines.
Old HU connects to mulf / tcu.
New HU has built in BT.

Before about 09 bluetooth telelphone usb were hardware.

Before about 09 Bluetooth telephone usb were hardware modules
separate from the radio . Some where around 2011 they started integrating the hardware for some of these functions in the radio.
If you have one of the older cars there are separate hardware modules.
Also the hardware modules varied by year . This makes upgrading a more involved for things like ipod and usb for these years . See the bluetooth sticky at the top of the page it will make your head spin, with names like TCU , Mulf,Mulf2, ULF etc etc..
The follwing file describes the entertainment system as it was.

Read about the most bus in the following file
http://www.bawarec.ru/manuals/3er/e9...3er-e90-12.pdf

this a thread about the new head unit with usb , bluetooth integrated into the hardware.

Since the link to the electrical system isn't working

You can get it here along with a lot of other useful pdf's

http://bmwcoders.com/forum/3-er-8/bm...1-e92-e93-291/

but you will have to join the board I think.
