If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

I've used Techron before on previous vehicles and works fine. I noticed that the Lucas product is also a "Lubricant" in addition to a valve cleaner. Are there any concerns with the "Lubricant" aspect of it, especially if I were to use this on a long term basis? Would there be any harm if I used Lucas for 1 tank, and several tanks later decided to use Techron?

I just did a 3,000 miles trip using Lucas, 6-8 oz per tank. I yielded about 30 mpg traveling from FL to CA. Had a passenger and loads of stuff in the trunk and back seat. The trip was mostly highways, besides going into New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio, New Mexico, and Phoenix.
My point of view is that it lubricates the rings, cylinder walls, and valve seats. This will reduce friction on moving parts therefore increase engine response and most importantly, longevity. Less wear and heat. |

Most guys in here are 335i guys. Is it less necessary to do this in a NA e90?

Why not? The additive doesn't clean our intake valves but will clean out the fuel system. It should absorb water/moisture in fuel tank (slightly), clean tank + lines, clean the injectors and pumps. Give it a try, all of my other vehicles are all NA and still yeild great results. Again, because of our DI engines, the difference will not be as "day and night" than some other cars!

(but in a nice way) Oil change is not necessary after using Chevron Tehron fuel injector cleaner (concentrated solution).

I've been using the Techron Concentrate Plus and have no issues with it. Does anyone here use a combination of both Techron Concentrate Plus AND Lucas?? Techron primarily for cleaning and Lucas primarily for lubrication. Just wasn't sure I were to use Lucas, that the detergents in Techron Concentrate would remove the lubricants from the Lucas solution and eventually render it useless.
And if so...do you do Techron before an oil change and Lucas after an oil change?
