RWD to Xdrive any regrets?
Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone has done from an E9X RWD to E9X Xdrive and had any regrets? I have had two 335i's that were RWD and I now have an Xdrive. Most of the time i'm glad I got the AWD, but there are times that I wish I didn't get Xdrive because of the non sporty approach BMW takes towards the AWD models (Example: no sports suspension, No Xdrive 335is etc). I was just wondering what some of your thoughts were. I do prefer the advantages a "proper" AWD system gives over RWD however (Example: Porsche AWD system, Audi etc).

Just get KW V1's and you'll be happy. I went from a rwd 335i to a awd 335i and I see what you mean. The x drive feels wobbley in the corners and it's ride height is awful but if you get coilovers, all of this goes away. I know what you mean though.

I'm in the market for a 335 and that question bugged me as well. I'm scared of not having any aftermarket support for the suspension, but you almost can't afford to not drive an AWD car here in the northeast, especially if it's your daily driver.

im very happy with the kw's on my xdrive. really improved the ride and made it feel planted without sacrificing the ride.

the suspension is bad and sits so high, a good 3 inches + wheel gap. but i did upgrade to the kwv1's and it sits much lower and it handles so much better. and DPs were expensive till vrsf came out with a decent set.
the only real sad thing is the traction is so damn good you cant even chirp your tires. but the winters in ohio are a breeze so it is worth it.

The Eibach Pro-kit springs and Bilstein struts feel pretty good, I haven't driven on KW v1's so I can't compare. I love the traction off the line and you can't get that in a RWD. Also I have never had so much fun playing in the snow! Right CWysong?

I went from my 135i and specifically got the 335 because of x-drive. I've heard all of these things about how it's not meant for performance, blah blah blah. I've had DSM's in the past as well as a Stealth RT TT AWD and LOVE AWD launches. As far as not being as high tech as R35, Audi and Subaru, etc...it is light years ahead of the old Mitsubishi stuff and they were a blast, so I am plenty happy with our setup.
If the 135 came in AWD I would own that (because I like the style better), but I love being able to drive to the track in full street trim, on ANY tires and cut 1.8 60 ft times or lower.i too switched out to the KW V1's and it rides great. I have a 700hp mustang cobra and without slicks it just fries the tires...power is great but putting it to the ground is better! |
