Brakes and BMW Warranty

My brakes are going to need changing on my 2007 E91 soon. The car is still under a BMW Approved Used Warranty as I bought it from a dealership two months ago.
My question is, do I have to stick with Genuine parts or can I fit Pagid discs and pads. The genuine parts are over double to cost and I can get the Pagid parts at good discount.

thanks in advance...

Discs and PAds are service items and not covered under warranty. IMO its a joke anyway since BMW fit textar pads in factory. The so called OEM brake sensor cable that BMW sell is identical to one PAGID make to a point where the stamping on the plastic match aka same one. So really no different apart from a 100% mark up.

All in all a big con. Get your things from eurocar parts there are plenty of discount codes google and you can get a good deal. Also pagid dics come primed so get some hammerite high temp spray paint and you can paint the hubs to avoid rust.

On side note I have a spare front brake sensor wire up for sale

Brakes/Pads aren't covered under Warranty so no reason to stick OE.

A brake pad being non-OE won't affect any other warranty component - don't worry about that.

Just get it done as cheaply as you can. DIY fit them ideally as it's nice and easy ..

I have to say i would be pretty pissed though if i bought an Used approved and within 2 months it needed brakes, to me that should have been done (unless you have covered an extreme amount of miles) maybe worth chancing your arm with the sales person you dealt with to see what they have to say? worse case is jog on, I know I would at least contact them and ask, like I say that's if you have not done massive miles, I would have thought 2kish would be acceptable!

To be honest I have been disappointed with the dealership in question. Its one of the nicest, modern BMW dealerships I have seen, all very professional and came highly recommended, "we prep our cars to the highest standard" etc etc, all that bollocks. I have had the brakes apart and cleaned them, and fronts have around 5-6mm of pad left and look in ok condition. I put them back in and greased them up. These will need discs and pads in 3-4k miles probably (ive done around 3k miles since I bought it).

rears are about the same, but the rear discs are ok without ridges so just need pads. Im gonna run them till the wear indicators on the front as the discs are crap anyway, then I'll go the ECP route I think.

Original parts seem to be stamped Ate/Textar so will prob go with these.

Cheers for the advice.

Mine asked for an oil change 2 months after purchase from a main dealer in Belfast. I took it back and they sorted it out.

IMHO, brakes, although a service item, should have been done if they were marginal like you state. Take it back.

Just checked the dash service status for brakes and it is saying 10,000 miles left on the front pads and 15,000 on rears If I get 10k miles out of them front pads I will be astonished. We will see. thanks for the advice!!

from memory new pads come with about 12mm so from that your about 50-60% worn so I would expect them to last more than 3-4k unless you take it on track/ride the brakes

what does your display say is left in them?

my pads are on roughly 3-4mm and it says i have about 14k left on them

Textar are just a generic brand IMO pagid better bet especially as the discs are primed so you can get a great finish on them with hammerite spray before you mount them

Though your car so your choice. I went all pagid to keep to same brand and cant complain plus they look great with painted hubs no rust and been couple of months

Eurocarparts codes that worked for me are EPDP35 gave 35% off pagid and OILSPILL30 gives 30%

yeah, the computer says 10k from and 15k rears. will be changing them soon though as I cant get rid of the bloody squeaking. Stripped and cleaned the hell out of them and front left / rear right still squeaking. Must be the pad sensors. Will cope with them till payday and then they are getting changed. thanks for the replies.
