hahaha, yeah..the 2 bottom edges are potruding.. but the screen is angled upwards on purpose due to the low location of the unit.. the dash kit I'm using is not a metra , if I'm not mistaken it's a scosche brand. And no matter how hard you adjust , the 2 bottom edges refuse to be flush with the sides

Ya I was pretty disgusted to see how bad the metra fits in person after installing it. I've seen pics before and none of them looked that bad at all. The icing on the cake is that you have to just drill 2 screws into your dash to secure the bottom. Pathetic.

for the benefit of TS and other potential forumer who wants to change to aftermarket HU, below is a cross post from my local forum on upgrade.

Updates:

Ok, below is the short review of Soundwerkz upgrade of my sound system and helping to re-locate the stock HU back into the system.

On a side note, for all who are thinking of changing their HU to a aftermarket one, the step of re-locating the stock HU is a must. Reading from various US forum sometimes suggest connecting it back into the car but relocating it into the rear boot, but Soundwerkz have managed to do it in a more elegant way. I believe my car should be the 2nd car he is trying this out, check out below for the details.

To share with any potential upgraders of their sound system, if you intend to change to aftermarket HU, you can't just pluck out the stock HU and replace, the reason being our car system will detect that something is "missing" and thus lock out the OBD port. As such, we are not able to do any coding, programming or upgrade of software.

To illustrate this, I bought my Ultra gauge in between my first audio upgrade ( removing HU) and second stage( relocating HU). The gauge only picked up 32 parameters and most of them quite useless info. After my relocation of the HU, the ultra gauge was able to pick up 63 parameters. For reference below are the parameters,

I chose , horsepower, torque, engine load, intake temp, engine temp and battery voltage

on to the sound upgrade:

underseat sub removed for adding dampening material

rewiring of all speakers to active( thus removing crossovers)

sub ready for install

HU removal to facilitate the wiring of processor and new amps

wiring work

stock HU relocate to below passenger seat!

new fuse box

amp wiring

equipment list

2 x Mosconi One 120.4 ( decided to remove the Rockford Fosgate)

Audison Bit One

DLS Reference RW12 12" subwoofer

tuning prep

actual tuning

Bit one controller in front mini compartment

Kelvin tune 2 distinct for me, one for audiophile type song and one for pop/rock. This is to run in and to test my preference, will be going back after one month. By the way, the Audison bit one controller is able to recall 4 presets. An added bonus after the re-installation is that my phone button on the steering wheel now works! I am happy that now, every single button on my steering actually works..

Below are some day time shots of the setup.

Alpine ICS-X8 menu page

Alpine ICS-X8 USB playback

Alpine ICS-X8 bluetooth playback

Alpine ICS-X8 radio

Alpine ICS-X8 quick access buttons

Audison Bit One controller

Stock HU neatly tucked under passenger front seat ( accessing it is also a breeze)

DLS Reference sub ( added the grill to protect the cones)

I hope you enjoyed the writeup as much as I did with my audio upgrade journey, I would like to thank Kelvin from Soundwerkz for willing to do the relocating and upgrading of my system. Kudos to the team and keep us the good work.
