Spreader tool for front suspension install?
watching ESC Tuning's coilover install video and they recommended "spindle housing spreader tool" to do the install. anyone use one or recommend an alt tool? I see its use but not sure its worth $30 for one time use.
http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-...R6_12v/ES3894/ is this a common tool for macpherson struts? I searched but found nothing. |

I confess, I used a screw driver to spread it *just enough* to fit a 1/4" to 1/2" socket adapter (so, the 1/4" square) into the gap, then I could put a little pressure on the ratchet and it spread enough to get the strut in and out, no problems.
But if you have time to wait for one, I would. I've heard they're also sold at Sears. |

Take a 8mm allen bit or a hex bit, grind two sides of it with either a dremmel or grinder. Insert and spread. Job done.
