It takes ALOT longer to backup, flash maps, and load maps to your computer (like 30 minutes more in some cases). No support is guaranteed, so even though Shiv is now, he is not obligated to and may drop support in the future which we have seen before.
You pay your money and you pick your product, I would rather invest $400 in OFT which came out months ago and will have a huge following/community support rather then use Cobb which costs $900 and only has limited access to tables in the DME for tuning by "pro tuners" which each can lock your tune and charge you MORE for each time they tune you. I guess I have more vision and faith in community efforts over limited proprietary systems. The time it takes to read/flash, well that just goes to show you what you are getting FWIW, it's fast because it's minimal changes. If you want the ability to change everything then it's gonna take more time. Also FWIW, how often are you flashing your DME???

My personal preference is to go with the JB4 G5, that's what I have. But still, OFT > Cobb AP just my humble opinion

I will and have. For some people saving $400 is huge so they go with something that's cheaper and inferior. That's fine and I don't object to that. Just me, personally, would rather pick the better, more supported device for a few hundred extra.

Huge following? You got that right, COBB's is one of the largest tuners in the industry. COBB tunes GTR's, BMW's, Ford, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsu, etc. Not to mention the huge number of protuners and shops that work with (in some cases only deal with) COBB in tuning people's cars, because they know it works. And works extremely well. The guys their are engineers all over the country, not people who work out of a single shop or small office on one platform.

Limited access? You clearly haven't worked at all with ATR or know what you are talking about. Not to mention COBB race code to increase the DME boost limits? No other flash tune does that on this platform because they are the ones that innovate. The others are just catching up, or attempting to, in slow/limited logging, flash times, poor tuner support, etc. List can go on but I'll stop there.

Fact is right now, COBB's offerings are still superior than community offerings. OFT is not a community developed project, it's a proprietary device that uses TunerPro maps that can be created and shared by users. Moot point because users can share COBB maps, so if you trust the community have them make a map for your COBB and flash it in 5x the time it takes OFT to do it.

My personal opinion is that as of right now a piggy+flash combination is still the best for power and delivery on a stock turbo N54, especially on an auto transmission.

It's really a worthless argument, but if you want me to adress more, I will.

Do It ! You wont regret it !

128k miles here and been spirited driving for at least 50K on JB, Meth, etc Stock turbo's still seem fine! Boost feels good.

If you start boosting with E85 and meth, your probably going to wear out the clutch a little quicker...but like others say, its a machine, you fix the things that break.

Just did a little run tonight.....as you can see I'm not a red line driver, car is too fast to have to red line.

at 50K the car went in for new injectors and intake cleaning.

at 120k thereabouts, things needed attention that I had pushed off for quite some time.

1. oil filter housing gasket leaks - haven't fixed it yet...not a big deal $30 gasket.

2. Clutch slipping with e85, meth and map3 or 6 with 15 or so psi. - me and neighbor replaced with spec stage 2+ and SMFW. Found some leakage from rear main seal. Replaced rear main while doing clutch.

3. front differential input shaft leaking - fixed that while doing clutch.

4. water pump started to fail about 120k, not a difficult DIY, just small area.

5. HPFP...dont like stealerships so i did it on my own dime. quick job. yours is under warranty, no worries.

BMW's are good products...this is my 4th one!
