SOS!! '08 335xi VS '11 335is Cab

Hey everyone. I recently totalled my CPO 2008 335xi and am in the market for another vehicle.

I really have my heart set on the 335is Cab because of the meaner look but for some reason I feel that the newer 335's are not as fast?

So I test drove the 2011 335is Cab and surely enough it didn't feel as peppy off the line not did I feel the pull in 4th gear when I punched it on the highway. Almost felt a little laggy. From what I understand the 2008 335 had a twin turbo and in 2009 they changed it to a twin scroll turbo.. Is that the reason? Is that even a big difference? The 335is is supposed to technically be more ballsy... So wtf?

Is this just me? Or could it have been that specific car? The sales guy tried telling me that BMW adapts the the type of driver. So the previous owner could have been a little a slower driver and maybe the car wasn't used to it.

Am I really just paying extra for the sound and body kit? Somebody please help!!!

Well, the cab (assuming you mean cabriolet or convertible) is several pounds heavier than the non-convertible, so that could have something to do with it.

The 335is uses the same N54 engine that was in your old 2008 335xi. The N55 motor started with the MY 2011 335i models. The N55 uses a single twin scroll turbocharger whereas the N54 has twin turbos.

I'm not sure why the 335is felt slower. The 335xi has better traction off the line so maybe that's what you're noticing?

There's also a difference in weight between RWD335is vs XDrive, RWD should weigh less.
I don't know, it's a toss up, youre getting a DCT transmission with 335is, no?
I wish my car had a DCT. I have an Alpina map on my car and though it's fast it's nowhere near as quick as a DCT.
IS sounds might tempting, but the traction of a Xdrive especially during the colder months wins out for me.

Does anyone know If the 2012-2014 335is models still use the N54 engine and twin turbos?

Yes, all 335is come with the N54.

The E93 335is is almost 300lbs heavier than your E92 335xi.

There are a lot of factors why a 335is could be slower than a 335xi. Gas quality could cause this. Old spark plugs and/or coils. Build up in the intake. Etc. have it checked out by an indy.
