Service advice?

My car says a service is due in 2200miles. In the service book it was last serviced in August 2011 on 32000miles. Does it need a service now as not been done for couple of years or wait the 2200 miles? Currently on 48000 miles. Thanks

I'd be thinking of getting it done to be honest. They shouldn't be left for more than 2 years.

Personally I wouldn't have left it anywhere near two years for oil and filter change, I think I'm right in saying that the service meter can be reset as long as its under 80% left. I would have it serviced now.

CBS is usually either the mileage, based generally on fuel consumed OR a time period, usually a maximum of 2 years. It needs a service!

I won't let BMW touch my car after you realise how they service them, 20 mins for an oil and filter change... Not long enough to do a proper job, can you do it yourself or get a good Indy to do it!

I'm booking it in for a full service with a independent bmw specialist garage. How ofton should it be serviced? Every year? After so many miles? Full service each time ?

Where are you getting it done?

With regards to services and when, it really depends on how you use the car and mileage your doing but yearly is a safe bet.

Servicing is calculated automatically, condition based servicing (CBS). The idrive, service menu or key when inserted into a reader at the dealer will tell you what is due. The oil change is a maximum of 2 years or earlier if high mileage. Some feel that 2 years is too long and get an interim oil change after a year but of the cars that I have had that had CBS I stuck with 2 years and haven't ever had any bother.

Had it serviced today. The next service indicator is for 2 years, is that right. What is the roadworthiness test?

There's no reason any car shouldn't be serviced every 7-8k miles. Any mechanic will tell you that. All oil, whether synthetic or not, breaks down over time.

Oil breaks down over time.... but BMW put LL04 (long life) grade oil to obtain the 2 yr / 17,000 mile service intervals. If you use LL04 oil, the CBS interval is ok. If you use Halfords super-special oil, then it's not!!

I know that's what they claim, but personally I wouldn't chance leaving my oil that long.

+1

See http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=406804

Regardless of the online price being around £60, my local National insisted that all diesels were priced at £45.00 when I last called in June. You can usually get 10% discount coupon online. Its a no brainer for main or interim oil change unless you really are paranoid about FBMWSH
