How do you protect your Rims in Winter?
Hi
I've got a set of 313's on my car, have heard horror stories of lacquer peeling due to salt on roads during winter, I understand this problem is common on split rims too, how do you protect ur rims during winter? Swapping rims is not something I can do unfortunately due to storage issues, so any help I could get would be much appreciated, cheers

Just wash the wheels regularly, IMO.

Wash teh wheels once a week
I use Megs metal polish on the lips EVERYTIME i wash the rims. People use a sealent on the face, but as i have painted rims, i will just use an AIO on the faces once a month, I am more worried about my lips that the faces. |

if you have polished lips then you'll need to clean them nearly every day else the road salt will cause pitting in the metal. I'd seriously consider winter wheels if I had polished lips.

It is best to have a seperate set of tires and wheels for a winter setup. Both sets will last longer and perform better. My winter rims have extra layers of clear coat applied to protect from the salt. It is also important to power rinse them at least once a week.

It's stone chips that split the lacquer and let in moisture which "milks" them. Can't stop it I'm afraid.

When I had polished lip BBS on my e39, the winter and salt was a nightmare.
However, I did find that Autoglym Alloy Wheel Seal went some way to combat the issues. It's very easy to use - just spray on and leave! It made a noticeable difference as the wheels could be cleaned easily and there was barely any trace of corrosion/pitting. Worth using for the winter months if you don't want winter wheels. |

Best if you get winter set smaller and cheaper wheels. I use 19" as summer set and 17" non staggered wheels for winter

Ive got LM reps that I bought last winter. Couldn't wash them that often due to other commitments and come spring they do have minor signs of corrosion in places on the lips.
This year I think I'm going to get winter tyres on my OEM 17" rims and store the others |

OP, if I was you, I would do following.
1. clean wheels with sonax full effects. 2. remove scratches "if any" 3. polish wheels. 4 protect wheels with cquartz carpro and after that I would clean them regularly OR buy cheap winter wheels/tires set |

As above - keep the wheels clean or at least rinse them with a hose/watering can for a quick bit of maintenance.
And remove the centre caps and remove any extra water that can remain there! Then wax/polish/seal them (Poorboys pink stuff is good - smells nice too!). |
