I used to have it in my M3 but I coded it out for the HiFi. It was not that great at all for me. |

Technic so you have successfully recoded
Just out of curiosity were you successful in recoding and what did you need to do it? Can you do other things like enable the Cd option for a ipod kit on the most bus?

I don't even know what system my car has...but when I had a 2011 loaner last week with HK, I wasn't even remotely impressed, it sounded like garbage and you couldn't turn it up much without it getting ridiculously distorted. Bass was non-existent. I would like to assume that's due to customers abusing the system when they borrow the car, but only to a certain point...

I have the base system in my 08 328. When I first listened to iPOD and CD's I thought there was something wong with the stereo (compared to many other cars at this price point with base stereos) That being said, I am not an audiophile, so I think the base stereo is fine. When I ordered my 2011, I did not want to pay the extra 875 for the HK upgrade, but the car being assembled was spec'd to my preferance and had the HK- so the dealer threw it in. So this is a bonus in my new car. Looking forward to trying it out.

My 2011 328 (Nov 2010 build) came with the HK so I can not tell about the base system. You can find details on the HK here: http://www.bmw.harmankardon.com/en/vehicles/model03/
You get a lot of speakers however quality depends on the source (the old garbage in garbage out). I am not impressed with the sound on the back. Although it suppose to have the same speakers, for some reason the sound on the back comes a little empty. Maybe is the shape of the interior. The bass is way too strong in my opinion but again it really depends on the source. HD radio is way to heavy. CD is better but again a little too much for me. Music from my iPod comes out great. I have the bass setting at -4 to be comfortable. I agree with the other poster to take your music and go to the dealer to test it out. There is no doubt they will have both (base and HK) in their lot. |

Technic does this do the radio?
Technic does this do the radio and allow you to add the CD/ipod or is it just for
Keyfob type functions and diagnostics ? |

I have not heard the new hk system yet however in 2009 when I ordered my car I got the Individual Audio System which was hands down better then the L7 system at the time.
I'm curious to hear how my Individual system stacks up against the new hk system. Anyone have any experience with this? I just may have to pop into the dealer and try it out |

Going into the setting menu of the HK system and tweaking the EQ helps a lot. The thing to remember is that as volume rises, certain frequencies will sound louder than others. The settings you have at lower levels will not sound the same as when you really crank the system. If you're going to play at really high sound levels, don't be afraid to lower the bass and be judicious with the upper frequencies. The mids can be drowned out at extremely high sound levels.
If you go into the Logic7 menu, the "Concert" or "Theater" settings seem to compensate for that. |

I even activated BMW Search after paying Assist for it, although my M3 is a MY2008 (BMW Search is a MY2009-on feature). |

The base system is awful compared to HK. Wait, let me rephrase, the base system is intolerable compared to the HK.
I'm not saying the HK is anything special (it's better than any GM bose or audi bose system I ever heard), but the base system is just so awful you'll be banging your head against the steering wheel. I cheaped out on my wife's 328 by not getting xenons & HK, and I'm so glad we leased her vehicle because we cannot live without either. Both are worth every penny. The HK has a reasonable equalizer in it, so you'll be able to change the sound as you see fit. Of course any audiophile would argue that getting their own system is the best. |

Anyone know what an '06 325i w/ Sport & Premium would have? Not sure what the sound options were that year.

I have Logic 7 in my '09 MB C300 which also use a Harman/Kardon like the BMW's Logic 7 system. I am quite content with the Logic 7 system in my Benz. I just recently purchase a 2011 BMW 328i and the only diappointment I have with it so far has been the base stereo system that the car comes with.
The answer to the OP of this thread is a definite "YES". I have looked into upgrading the base stereo in my 328 and it is around the same price as if you would have upgrade it to Logic 7 to begin with. |

L7 is the best sound system BMW has to offer. Some models have only the basic sound systems and it totally sucks. I have had 09-11 e90 loaners and the sound totally sucks comparing to my L7 logic sound system in my 06 330... and oh yes it was included with premium package.
