"Best Snow/Ice Tires"
Here we go,
Whats hot on the market and available? Im looking to see what the top rated tire for our cars are right now in Snow and Ice. Im going to use the 18" OEM wheels and put a 225 in front and a 235 in the rear. Im thinking of a stud less Ice tire... Suggestions. |

I have always used either Bridgestone Blizzak or Michelin X-Ice Xi3 on any of my cars (using Blizzaks on 17" wheels for my 328iX). Both are excellent in either ice or deep snow.
Depending on your desired Speed Rating you have a couple choices:
Out of those I would rate them in order of Best on down as follows from my experience: #1 - Michelin X-Ice #2 - Blizzak WS70 #3 - Blizzak WS60 #4 - Blizzak LM60 That's not to say that any of them are bad - just slight differences... Where I live in PA we have had more ice than deep snow the past couple years, so my preferences shown above are geared more toward driving on ice then deep snow. Current Tire Rack Pricing in order of Most $$ to Least: #1 - Michelin X-Ice #2 - Blizzak WS70 #3 - Blizzak LM60 (On Closeout) #4 - Blizzak WS60 (On Closeout) Currently (and for the past couple years) I have been running the WS70 on aftermarket 17" rims on my BMW, and the X-Ice on aftermarket rims for my wife's G6 GT Vert. Check out Tire Rack - you can compare tires & their reviews/ratings & also see the promotions currently running

Read the sticky at the top that Gary/TireRack wrote. We have used the Michelin PA and xIce tires, and Blizzak LM-22 and LM-60 (all from tirerack).
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=890581 Only thing I might add is that lots of people like at least one other tire that tirerack doesn't carry: Nokian Hakkepellita. |

I have Conti Extreme Winter Contact and they are amazing on my 328xi (sedan). In tirerack's survey a few years ago, they were the #1 place tire (I think the took 2nd this year behind the WS70, but ahead of the X-Ice) I have had Blizzak's before (on my A4) and I feel the Conti's are a better tire for snow/ice grip. I run 205/60/16 (I run 60's as I want a bit more clearance under the car for deep snow) and the tires just plow through anything. I have had my undercarriage dragging on snow and the car just keeps going (I'm sure the xi was doing it's part as well).
The Conti's are cheaper as well, and I do think they are a pretty good tire. Anyone else running them and have comments? Test results: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=167 |
