Winter wheels or stock wheels?
I was wondering if I should use my type 162 wheels with winter tires. Right now I have Michelin pilot ss on them. Can removing those tires damage them? Should I just get a new set of wheels? Would it be more economical to just swap the tires back and forth? Also I read that Bridgestone Blizzak are good. Should I go for those? Thank you for your help!

If you're planning on keeping the car for more than a couple years, you probably are money ahead by buying a set of winter wheels. At least around here, mounting and balancing a tire is about $30 apiece; so that's $240 a year right there.

And no, you can't inherently damage the wheels by remounting tires. That only happens if your installer is an idiot, which is entirely possible and even common. Always seek a reputable tire shop for mounting, or you can pay the price later. |

Winters here IN Philly are not too bad, cold, some snow, but not bad at all. I just keep my summer set-up. I have all season tires but they are more performance like tires. Depends on how bad your winters are how long and what kind of commute you have to work.
As far as rims, if you have harsh winters, then definitely new set of winter rims. If winter is just mild, I would say stick with the stock rims. Just make sure you wash them/protect them every couple weeks and I think you will be good. |
