Service Engine Soon P0128

Hey guys, Just got a check engine light and pulled the code P0128. Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature. Can anyone tell me what that means or what needs to be fixed? Thanks.

Could mean your thermostat and/or water pump may be on its way out. Id change both if it continues and get it done soon since when it fails you'll be stuck

Ah, very curious about this! What temperature range is she running at when warmed up? Thermostat is most likely jammed open...

My 330i is apparently running cooler than it should in most cases but as typically goes with my car, no error codes to suggest anything is wrong. When I activate the hidden menu on the cluster and then coolant temperature it shows it in the 79 to 84 degrees Celsius range which is apparently the high output mode for the N52 - under normal driving conditions it should be closer to 105 degrees Celsius which is Eco mode. Now the N54/55 probably has a different temperature range characteristic, but would be curious to know what temperatures you are seeing...

If you ran a BMW scan tool it probably would bring up the code that says the T-stat heater circut has failed. You need a new T-stat.

Ok I'm a little confused. Took the car to the dealer. They said they pulled a t-stat code. But also is saying that the car is drawing power from somewhere but don't know where. Also saying that the drawing of power may be the reason that it's causing that code as well. Now they need to check each module and test, etc to find out where it's drawing power from and will be another 4 hours @ $150/hr. Does this sound right? Can someone chime in here and let me know if this is legit? If it's a t-stat, don't they just need to change that out? Or maybe it's a battery issue then just change that out? I feel like they are trying to take me for a ride.

Sorry, missed this when you posted - what did they find? I doubt it's a battery issue, mine was virtually dead a few weeks back and no errors or issues like this.

T-stat stuck open. I had this and changing the t-stat fixed the problem.

Me too. Is your T-stuck open. I had this error code last year. NOthing major. I just cleared the error with a OBD tool.

Ill change Thermostat along with my WP as soon as I can save some cash..
