tensioner replacement need advice
Hey,
Last week i inspected mytensioner and it was in pretty bad condition (76k miles) So i ordered a new one. This weekend im planing to change the belt and the tensioner. I never did that before any advices? Do i need some "special" tools? I will follow http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech..._Replacing.htm This diy to remove the fan is it accurate? I need to remove it because the acces is bad! To remove and replace the tensioner i looked at the follow diy http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech...eplacement.htm I didnt receive yet the new tensioner so im not sure if i need the torx bit in order to remove the tensioner. Any advices are welcome Last edited by pepsih; 10-17-2013 at 12:48 PM.. |

You will need Torx to remove the tensioner. Removing the electric fan takes 2 min and gives you enough room to get your arm in front of the engine to do anything you need so def take it out. I am not sure what size torx you need but you will need a 1/2" ratchet to release the tensioner from the belt.

DIY GUIDE
Check out the DIY guide it has many of the torque specs you are looking for. SNUG + 1/6 is always a good guide. I checked my Bentley and could only find the idler pulley to alternator torque at 80nm.
. . I did this job months ago and found the specs / torque applications in the DIY guides. |

JOB DONE!
It took me +/- 2 hours. i think the tricky part was to remove the fan, i had to remove the cover from the bottom in order to acces one screw thats attached to the fan, and i needed help from my brother in law to put it back. thanks everyone for your help |
