Looking for some help/ Misfire?
Ok guys here is some background, about a month ago I started running into problems with my car (2006 323i) with approximately 120,000km on her.
Problem 1 the blower fan stopped working for the interior heat/ Air conditioning so does anyone know which is more common, the motor to go or the control module. Problem 2 had some break problems so changed breaks and rotors, just maintenance I guess.. Problem 3: the DMTL Pump stopped working, so I got a quote from a mechanic and he says the part is 250+ 200 for labor. Problem 4: Im adding a video to this one because I'm not sure what it is. Plugs were changed around the 100k mark, but I am getting a misfire and no longer have any power. Im not sure what happened, but now I'm getting white smoke out of the exhaust. Here is some background, about 3 years ago my car started burning oil, its burned some oil ever since I bought it and I bought it used. Last summer I was low on coolant so i topped it off, then it started to go down again so I topped it up again and its been good for the remaining of the year with no change. I am still loosing oil though maybe 1-2L every 3-4000 Km. Ive read a bit about this and lots of people seem to have similar problems so Ive decided to just keep topping it up. Ive been getting the RPM needle jumping from like 500 and idle to about 750 Lately. This happened last summer so I took out the MAF sensor and cleaned it with some MAF Cleaner and it seemed to have gone away, but now it is back. A couple of days ago I went to the gym, went to bed, started the car in the morning and it was vibrating quite a bit, with a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust, Coolant looks normal, oil level on the screen doesn't show any difference. Im not sure if all of these small problems have just turned into a big one? or if they even have anything to do with each other? Can someone help me out? Thanks in advance |

I have a 2007 328xi with 122k miles and have worked through some of these problems. - I managed to burn out a blower fan motor reconnecting a battery. The dealer went straight to the fan and confirmed to me that that was the most common cause of not getting ny airflow to the cabin. The control module is less common(or so I was told). Fortunately the blower motor is easy enough to get to. - Brakes are par for the course. - I have been fortunate enough not to have any DMTL issues - I am unable to watch the video, but your description matches what I experienced with a bad ignition coil. I replaced the one and everything sorted itself out. I ended up replacing all 6 for good measure. I think the coils were $50ish/ea and only took an hour or so to swap out. Hope that helps |

misfire and white smoke sounds really bad. Could be a cracked cylinder wall. You need to have it professionally inspected, you are at risk for the engine self destructing very quickly here.

One my my buddies friends is a mechanic with BMW and was saying that the reason I'm burning oil is because I have an early 06 and there are problems with their piston rings. BMW came up for a new piston for the engine, and he said that was the only solution. As to the misfire he was telling me the coils usually start to go after 100k and its very common. Im at 125k now so at the moment I'm waiting for Fedex to deliver 6 new ones so I can see if that was the problem... The reason I have not taken my car in yet is because Diagnosis Fee= $100 1 Ignition Coil= $99.99 Labor= $200 Total= $400+13% tax I just bought 6 coils for $40 each from OEMBimmer.com or something like that so 6 coils for a total of $240+shipping.. about 300 bucks... If the coils start to go after 100k id rather buy them all and change them, its an easy thing to do.. |

Misfire problem was solved, it was the coil on cylinder 1.. I also used to have a problem where the RPM's jumped and now im starting to think it was a slight misfire. Now the problem is gone.. no more jump in RPM and no more smoke from the exhaust!
