Ok guys. So today I was cleaning out the E90 and noticed this thing that looks like my key in the dash. For the life of me I can't figure out what it could be. If anybody has any idea what this is I would love to know. The pics below are where it is and what it looks like.

P.S. Sorry for the horrible pics. All I had with me at the time was my iPod touch.

I know I dont have it but it looks like just a glovebox key. Does the metal key come out like in your FOB?

That's what I thought at first too but there's no metal key in it. There's nothing to go in the open end either.

It is the key insert for the plastic spare Key BMW provides as a backup. You slot the plastic key into this sleeve and then you insert the two of them like normal to start your car. I keep my plastic key in my wallet, the plastic key will open the doors, but you need this item to actually start it.

That's pretty cool. Although I don't have the other piece because I bought my car used from a non-BMW dealer. Thanks!
