Car Keyed.. New color options?
Hey guys, so over the weekend my car was keyed very badly up and down both sides of the vehicle. Not sure if they whole car will have to be repainted or not but given that it will cost a ton of money either way I am thinking about going with a different color.
Currently the car is SGM (could repaint same color) but I have always loved the dark grey on Creaminz old car (same grey as Porsche GT3) would love to hear your opinions and other color ideas! I will try to get some pics of the carnage up later this week |

Your choice would be the least trouble free. Don't have to worry about dicking around with registration and color changes.
Plus, almost can never go wrong with a Porsche Color.

Engine bay, interiors/jams, trunks, a whole lot of prep and $$$$$$$$. Paint it the same and buy another car /different color makes more sense.

you could probably change the shade of your color but not a completely different color.
If you have white car, going to pearl white wouldn't make any difference as far as registration or insurance wise. However i am all for originality of colors. I hope insurance pays for the paint job, and whoever keyed your car pays twice for it!!! I had an incident where one guy scratched my car, hood all the way across to the metal pretending to just walking by, luckily i didn't like his face so automatically i assumed it was him when i realized i had my hood keyed 1 hour later. I went back to colllege security we reviewed security tapes and found the guy, so with help from police he paid me for the respray!!! Sometimes justice is being served on a**hole like that!! |

my insurance company wont allow anyone paint anything else than original cause of vandalism. Its probably because it could be seen as insurance fraud. I hope your insurance company has different policy. good luck

why not just wrap it?
its alot cheaper then painting cuz you'll need to sand the car down and etc and your looking at a lot of labor...just wrap it!

You still will need to prep it to wrap it. If the scratches are deep, they will show thru the wrap and it will look like shit. For any non-wild, single colors, paint it. Only thing a wrap will do to benefit is if you wanted to do a wild color for now and then be able to change it later without a re-spray for resale. That doesn't sound like it applies here. Spray it the same color as OEM. it will be better off in the long run.

Paint it back to OEM color then get it wrapped or plastidipped...I know some will say blah to plasti but if done professionally there are some amazing colors that can be done and they are very professional looking...

thanks for all of the responses, I will be getting an estimate / talking to whoever comes to look at the car tomorrow so I should have a much better idea on where everything stands then
I would love to do a frozen grey wrap down the road, but I think right now I am going to focus on getting the car back to normal in SGM or some variant if they allow it. And unfortunately I didnt see who did it and my car was not in sight of a security camera... anybody have any recommendations for dashboard cams?? |
