Square 225's on staggered 8/8.5's
Would it be bad to run 225R40 snow tires all the way around on a set of BMW style 189's which are staggered 8/8.5 front/back?
And if so, could I even rotate them as if they were interchangeable even though they have slightly different offsets? |

You can rotate, if you want. It's only 3mm difference and thats not problem.

You can definitely run square tires on your wheels, and if you wanted you could rotate them.

I am currently running 225/40 18s on all four corners and it fits great, the only issue I see is the back tires need wheel spacers. The wheels I am running are 18x8.5 all the way around.

Yes, you can use 225/40R18 on both the front 8" wheels and the rear 8.5" OE wheels with no problem. This is actually very common to do. Eliminating the stagger in this way works very well for winter and results in better winter traction.

i asked this somewhere else
concerned about the tire size and the AWD. the staggered wheels 8,5x18 rear and 8x18 front putting the 225/40/18 all around wouldn't that change the tire diameter on the wider rim effectively making the rears a smaller diameter than the fronts? in the end putting a constant stress on the Xdrive systems because the front wheels will be turning at a slightly different RPM than the rears? |
