MSR Cresson 1.3
I did my first time trial yesterday on the MSR 1.3 with the local Porsche club. I haven't driven the 1.3 since March of 2012, so 10 hot laps wasn't really enough to get a good feel for the track. Even so, I'm satisfied with my time and it was a lot of fun.
I was running COBB stage 1, STETT stage 2 oil cooler, R-S3s (225/40/18, 255/35/18) My fastest lap, 01:10.703

Good lap, on both of the super slow left handers you're kinda angling across the track to the turn in, then having to turn very sharply to make the corner. Seems like if you went to the outside on those, then trail brake as you turn in, you wouldn't have to horse the car over so sharply to make the corners.
Really like how you did the left hander after the pit out though, thats a tough blind corner and it looked like you did it spot on. Love the datalogging. |

Time trials are a different experience. They sent 3 of us out on track at a time at about 20 second intervals. When you're sitting in the grid, you have to be ready to go full speed right out of the gate for 5 timed laps - your fastest lap is the one that gets recorded in the results. I was a little sloppier than I would have liked, but it was a fun day with great weather!

i've done the MSR Cresson track in my e46 m3. nice track .. quite tight.
i'm considering ditching the e46 m3 for an e90.. either 335i or M3… since the car will be mostly daily driven i'm strongly considering the 335i but am curious about how it handles on the track. can you give more info on how your car handled the event? (see i ended up back on topic ) thanks! Matt |

I've never driven an e46 or e9x M car, but my opinion is that the 335i handles "good enough." I've been running the stock suspension/wheels at all the autocross and track days I've done, and it can certainly hold its own. My driving is getting better, and this car keeps showing me that it is not the weak link! Zero complaints as far as daily driving goes. Here's a vid from the most recent autocross I did with the local S2000 club. It was a technical course, and I managed the 13th fastest overall time out of 65 drivers.

congrats on the solid finish at the autocross. maybe if i see a good 335i sport show up around here i'll take it for a spin and see if it's everything i remember it to be. although the e90 M3 definitely is still calling my name, it makes far less sense as a daily driver.. other option i'm looking at is an S4 which has very poor online/forum support especially as far as tracking it goes. the ubiquity of the e9x cars is a huge factor. have you had any overheating issues? i'm hearing that maybe the n55 has fewer cooling issues vs n54 but seems like u're running strong so that's good especially in the texas heat. take care matt |
