fan on after engine stops

For the first time after 3-yrs of ownership the cooling fan was running after the engine was turned off - wasn't a hot day, hadn't been driving hard. Thought it wasn't going to stop but it did after 10-mins or so. Any ideas why, is it a thermostat issue?

Thanks.

Could be a sign of the water pump on its way out. Keep an eye on coolant temps via the hidden menus..

Yep happened to me one evening last year - not that hot, and slowish drive home in traffic on country 'A' roads. Never happened since, even after 'spirited' driving on the hottest days. No other probs since (touch wood) ... just one of those things I guess ...

Thanks for both answer; As my 3-yr warranty is just about to finish I'll ensure that the water pump possibility is flagged up to the garage.

Garage List
How do you access these menus?

My 2009 has iDrive (with the newer controller)

I can only see how to do it with the older style?
