Pairing iphone 5 with car bluetooth problems
I cant seem to get my iphone 5 to pair with my cars bluetooth system. I've managed to pair once but it soon kicked the phone out and it has never worked since.
I spoke to my local dealer who were no use what so ever! Their answer being that my phone is not compatible, the only phone they recommend were Blackberrys. Is it possible that the software on the car can be updated to accept my iphone 5? Or is my only option to buy a BMW snap in adapter?? Any help would be appreciated. |

How old is your car? My iPhone5 works perfectly well with my 2013 F10 as it did with my 2011 F10. The BlackBerry I had was admittedly better because you got all the office functions but for phone functionality the iPhone 5 is fine.
Perhaps your software revision / MULF is too old.

What's a MULF??????
My E92 is a 2007 (57 plate) so obviously allot older than the phone. My old iphone 4 would not connect either. I had the security update on my car, I presumed (all be it maybe wrongly) that this would of updated all software on the car??? Could it be that my bluetooth is just 'playing up'? |

The MULF is the Bluetooth hardware. I would say that the revision is too old for iOS 6 / 7.

Ahhh I see.
Do you know if its possible to upgrade/replace the bluetooth hardware so the phone is compatible? As you can see I'm a little out of my depth with this one so you may have to bear with me. Many thanks for all your help though. |

Are you pairing the phone properly?
When doing a bt device search on your phone - can you see the car BMW####? It could be a knackered MULF? Ps you are trying the pair when the ignition is on? |

I got mine to pair with my 56 plate, but had a weird issue that I would be playing music via aux and it would keep cutting it on to BT (really low quality) and then back again. Didn't have this issue with iOS6 just iOS7, also iPhone 5.

When I had a similar prob with a Blackberry, I eventually got it all connected again by COMPLETELY shutting the fone down - ie battery out - before going thru the whole searching, pairing etc routine again.
Worth a try ??? |

Cheers for the comments people.
To be honest I havent tried pairing since updating my phone to iOS.7 so will give it another try. If this fails again then it sounds like it could be a knackered MULF as previously mentioned. jammy78 - I'm pretty sure I'm pairing correctly, will post again later if I'm not having much luck. Lets say it is the MULF that needs repairing. Can anyone recommend a specialist in the Birmingham area and are we talking serious money? |

I have never had a problem pairing any phone with my 07 e92. It has never dropped out either. I would think it is going to be something that has broken rather than something out of date/not compatible.

Don't have a iPhone 5 yet, but my 4S worked in a 2006 CCC iDrive Pro bluetooth, and 2007 CCC iDrive Pro, plus the iPod 160Gb classic worked via armrest aux/usb with full control/display on iDrive. Both worked flawlessly. Now the exact same case with my 2010 CIC iDrive Pro, still working flawlessly with the 4S via bluetooth and iPod in the armrest. So all my apple products has worked so far for 3 BMWs and 3 different versions of iDrive.

Its looking more likely that the MULF needs replacing on my car. Tried pairing with several phones and none work, the phones dont see the car and vice versa. Therefore if I was to buy a second hand MULF would there be any issues with media on my car? Are they set up car dependent and therefore certain media related items not work? Cheers |
