Is there an FAQ on backend tuning?

I have searched, but this is such a common search that it returns too many threads to sort through.

I presume you’re talking about a “back end” flash to handle fueling and timing, stacked on a piggyback that is at least partially passive? What do you need to know?

Yes, I should have made the subject clearer.
What cable is required; what program; where to download the flash; etc.

Google search: N54 BMS flash

It will come up as the first hit. Go from there.

Your best bet is to read the sticky on it on the other forum.. You are not going to find as much info on it on here

Got it, thanks!!

I see many people doing this on otherwise stock or lightly modded cars. Then why does Terry say this is only for people pushing over 425whp?

Davyhay; you can improve boost response, advance and AFR targeting with a flash. Fueling for e85 is improved, which makes backend flash more of a requirement.

I think you looked at the post dated 7/31/12 "JB4 BMS backend flash", which has developed into a thread titled "Bimmer Bxxst N54 free flash tuning", which is the current thread of the BMS flash development.

First, you need JB4 G5 iso to run the BMS flash.

The flash takes care of the fueling, so depending whether you are using pump, race, or E85 mix, you need to flash your car with the right file.

The JB4 takes care of the boost control and other extras. Especially, when map 5 is selected in JB4, which "autotunes" based on your mods, people have been benefiting from this setup regardless of the types of mods installed in their cars.

Also, I believe there is a copy of Cobb OTS Stage 2+ in the other site (bb), which I have not used personally. As there are vendors that might get upset, please use PM if you want information about this.

You can also inquire Pro Tuning Freaks about flash tuning.

Thanks for the info! I should have added that I am running JB4 G5 ISO.
