335i O2 sensor out at 1600miles
Took 4 days to replace an O2 sensor. I've only had the car 6 weeks and 1600 miles. SA said BMW wants to OK all repairs on the 335i's and had to wait for BMW technical to reply before work could get started. No O2 sensor issues came up on forum searches. Am I the first?

I know you asked the OP but the one that had to be replaced on mine was before the cat.

Question... What Code # were you throwing before you brought it to get fixed?

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry no details from the SA as to which O2 sensor. Also not modded. Didn't read the code myself other than the service engine soon warning. Happy to have my car back. Missed it after driving a loaner 325i (auto) for 4 days.

What would cause an 02 sensor to go bad, if the car is not modded?

A friend of mine at another dealer had 02 sensor faults on a 335i as well... Turned out that the gasket on the bottom of the downpipe that connects to the rest of the exhaust melted and caused a slight exhaust leak. Enough for the o2's to pick it up and throw a fault...

1600 miles - you were lucky...
OK - so my O2 sensor failed at 200 miles on the clock.
They had the car for a week, I presumed to replace it. 2 weeks later, same thing - amber engine management light. Now I'm being told the sensor is 'too sensitive' and they are awaiting a firmware upgrade from BMW to be able to adjust the sensor level. That's 6 weeks away. So my car will be off the road until then. At least they have offerred a loan car, but this is the worst experience I've had from any manufacturer in the last 30 years... No more BMWs for me. |

I burned through an O2 sensor around 2000 miles (completely stock). No biggie, drove the car why they ordered the parts. Got it fixed and back in like 6 hours.

Shit happens guys. Let's assume 1/10.000 O2 sensors is faulty, what isn't that bad. There are 4 sensors in each car, so let's say 1/2.500 cars can go bad with O2 sensor. Well, still not that bad. The rest is a question of luck
