What do you need done? Drain and refill, or gasket replacement?

If its not leaking, I wouldnt touch it.. One thing to keep in mind.. I did my X3 fluid change at 105k, and that caused front transmission seal leak ($1200 repair).. So keep that in mind..
I have all the tools to do it, but there is a risk associated with changing tranny fluid at this mileage.

It's very common where new thinner fluid causes leaks, particularly in high mileage transmissions. In some rare cases, it may cause it to slip, where a complete rebuild will be required. It's a coin flip.. Transmission leak in my case developed after about 50 miles of driving with new fluid..
If it ain't leaking, don't touch it.. Fluid level is important, you will know when it's low since your tranny will start shifting harder.. |
