My first instinct is that the collection of oil is from sloppy servicing...although it is possible you may have a gasket issue. I would do your best to clean it up and then periodically inspect the area to see if the oil deposits continue. If it comes back prior to servicing I would lean toward a gasket. If it stays clean then your tech just has a bad case of the shakes.

^+1, it happens to be around the cap which leads us to believe that it is spillage from servicing.

if you find the same elsewhere, then you might have a problem.

If it is spillage, it's a lot.

Pull the plugs just to make sure you don’t have oil on the combustion side of things. Assuming that’s not the case, it has to be oil spilling when changing and/or VCG. That looks like classic VCG leak for what it’s worth. But even on these motors they usually hold up for longer than 20K.

First off clean that engine! All that dirt and grim is going to make a nice thick grease. Once clean you can track the source weather it's sloppy oil changes or leaking valve cover or cap

And for goodness sakes please wipe down the valve cover with a wet paper towel or something. That is DIRTY.

Edit: ^ What this guy says

Did you replace the VCG yourself? Used new bolts and torqued every bolt down to spec? +1 on keeping it clean it'll be easier to detect leaks and what not...
