unlocking iphone 3.1

friend of mine has rogers locked iphone.
and he accidently updated to 3.1 and he has carrier w/ fido.
do you guys have any idea to unlock this iphone?
has any update for unlocking iphone released yet??

if you upgrade to 3.1 without doing it using pwnage, you're screwed. it's going to be a very long time before he can unlock and/or jailbreak.

depends what bootloader he has. if he has bootloader 5.08 then he can downgrade the baseband and unlock if he has bootloader 5.09 then hes stuck for now.

jailbreak the iphone with the new pwange tool from the dev team and then download fuzzyband from cydia using wifi. fuzyband will first tell you what bootloader you have and then it will downgrade the baseband. if ou get to down grade the baseband all you have to do then is download ultrasnow from cydia.

let us know if it worked.

Sorry to go hijack, but is jailbreaking the phone really worth it? I've been using mine jailbreak-free for past 3 months without much hassle. What are the huge UPs?

You should just tell him to wait a coule weeks dev team will come out with something. Also it is up in tha air about whether i'd it is worth it or not. I have it jailbroken and I love it

but if he did the "apple update" even if he was on the old bootloader, it would update it to the new, bad one.

isn't that Pwnage 3.1 for it ??????
or he has no luck w/ it?

pwnage 3.1.3 will create a custom firmware to use on your 3.0.x jailbroken phone. however if you already upgraded to 3.1 using apple's firmware, there is no pwn for that.

I upgraded my 3GS to 3.1 and then jailed broke it. The software can also unlock the phone but I didn't do it yet because I don't have a need for it yet so not sure if the unlock will work or not. I don't see why the hype about jailbreak, nothing special about it really. Haven't really seen a nice 3rd party app that I wanted to install.
