Plasti dip
Hey all, I'm in 2 minds about giving my cars wheels a plasti dipping (white). Has anybody plasti dipped before that can give any pointers. And can I get some feedback on whether we think it will suit my car. The 2nd photo I've added gives me confidence in the project.

It looks good in theory but the OEM brake pads give off terrible amounts of dust. You're going to be cleaning them ALL THE TIME! Go on YouTube and look up DipYourCar videos. They have tons of experience with the product and offer a few different do it yourself videos. I love the look of that E92 and I think you can accomplish the same but Idk how practical it will be having to clean it after every drive.

It would likely look better if you had bigger wheels. It is a good color scheme, but I think the OEM finish is better on those particular wheels.
My advice would be to just save up a little bit and get a new set. If you dip them, you'll probably be less motivated to upgrade in the future.

Your second looks great. The first, you just need nicer wheels. Love the colors on both too. As far as brake dust goes, get ceramics.

I kind of like the wheels as they are IMO. And yeah expect to clean them A LOT if you do go with white.
But if you do do it: Use about 1 can per wheel, TAKE YOUR TIME, do very, VERY light coats and slowly build it up. I think I did about 5-6 coats per wheel, maybe more.

If it's for the winter wheels, go for it, but if permanent wheels, the 5 spoke sport package look much better.
Plastidip is very easy to work with, you can not mess it up in a sense. If you do it wrong, just peel it off. Make sure to put enough coats so you can remove it easily. But even if not, use NAPHTA mineral spirit and it wipes right off. |

I have white wheels, I tried plastidip for a few days before I had them powdercoated white. The white plastidip looked really good, but it started getting dirty from the brake dust, and I don't care what people say, unless you use special cleaners, it will be a pain in the ass to clean them. That's why the plastidip lasted only a few days, I did them, they looked good, they got dirty, looked bad, and couldn't really fix it.
Personally I won't do white plastidip again for that reason, black is best, you see no dust at all. You can probably go the whole winter without cleaning them but then again, I don't like black wheels. |

Pealing the dip off of those multispoke will be a pain too. i say powder them or buy a set.

Your wheels are way to busy for this. I may get shot for this but E90 just doesn't look as classy to pull things like this off.

i don't think you should plastidip them white. they look really good the way they are already. i also agree that you might need bigger wheels to pull off this look. On top of that, it won't be easy to clean the brake dust. plastidip has a rubbery texture that makes dirt stick to it easier, essentially making it harder to clean.
plastidipping is easy. you must do a very light coat at first. if you overspray it on the first coat, then it will start to run. make sure you do multiple coats until you get a very thick layer by the time you are finished. otherwise, a thin layer of plastidip will make it so much harder to peal off. believe me! |

If you want white wheels...powder coat it, because it's easier to clean than a rough surface. Trust me, I had white wheels before & it's a nightmare to keep it clean.
