M Sport Wheel w/ Paddles - BMS harness - 08 E90 - won't work!?
Installed the harness per instructions last night. Did it 3x but could not get it to work. Wheel is M sport with paddles and MF buttons all complete brand new. Harness was purchased used on here from a reputable member.
Is there something simple I'm missing? I'm not an electrician so this is really confusing to me. My car is a Pre LCI E90 that formerly had a non-sport wheel without paddles. 6AT Step tranny. I was pretty thorough with the install. Played with the connections. If I slid the pinned connector down a row under the column the wipers would come on. Something aint right! Any help would be welcomed. I read the DIY thread in it's entirety and coudn't get anywhere. This is frustrating!

Everything else is working besides being able to use the paddles? The new Mf buttons/controls have 4 or 6 wires? Even though the Mf buttons that have 4 wires have a place to plug in the paddles, you need the 6 wire version. Which paddles do you have...? There is one paddle that has to have a diode or something wired to it to make it work. It is the one that looks like this...

that's what I have.
I was able to get the left side working by removing one of the wires, swapping the #1 to #1 pin and grounding the 2nd wire. Downshifted fine. I F'd up the right side and broke one of the little black tyco connectors and ended up giving up. I think I know what I need to do now. Jus tneed to find the connector. It's the same connector used for the iDrive in the center console. The little black thing on the end of the two red wires int eh picture above. Frustrating as hell these weren't PNP with the Burger harness. Would it be easier to just get different paddles?? Snipping diodes, soldering jumpers etc... not my thing at all. That's why I bought the harness. Pissed it has come to this!

I used the DCT paddles because soldering and things like that are not my forte.
If you have one working...I would say you can get the other working as well...Don't give up yet. No point in spending more $ if you don't have to!

I did this myself over the summer. You need to short the resistors like in this guide (which i'm assuming you've already done):
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=540684 Then you need to rewire the paddle wires like below: Left Paddle Connector _______ 3-------|<--downshift 2-------|<--ground 1-------| _______| ____| Right Paddle Connector ____ ____|___ 1-------| 2-------|<--ground 3-------|<--upshift _______| Things should work at that point assuming you have the harness installed correctly. These specific paddles take a bit of work to get them working properly. Any of the other paddles should be a direct plug and play if you decide to go that route. |
