I'm still with the stock downpipe but my car does not have secondary cats or the resonator - it's an N55 rear drive.

I have a N54 AT with the BMW PE, drones like described (I admit to being sensitive). Added Vibrant Resonators, and still have the secondary cats........still drones.

I went through the whole process of eliminating the oem resonator with X Pipe and retained stock mufflers. Replaced the stock mufflers with PE mufflers. Added Vibrant Resonators.

1. Still drones at 2000rpm at 70mph, light engine load.
2. The "Exotic" PE sound everyone talks about? I'm not hearing it. If I'm going to live with the drone, then I at least want the "exotic" sound.

BTW the stock exhaust system drones with the flap actuator unplugged, so I guess unless there is an aftermarket exhaust with a flap, there will be drone.

Stock with the flapper actuator on is the only system with no drone. That's just my conclusion.
