Service costs

Hi guys,

Got a looming MOT.

What cost should I be expecting for a full service and an EGR clean?

It tells you the suggested cost and what dealers are prepared to do it for.

Up to you to find a price between them that you are happy to pay.

What I was after was a general cost for service and MOT that most you guys are paying.

I've had a quote from a German specialist who I've always used..wanted to see how good it fairs.

What do you mean by a full service? Engine oil and filter obviously, brake fluid? micro filter? anything else? Are you looking for a main dealer or an independent?

Just a general full yearly service. Not one of the biggys. Oil change, filter change. I'm not sure I have a micro-filter.

Obviously an indy will be cheaper than BMW (I get mine serviced at the dealer and anything else done at an indy).

You'll be better off contacting a main dealer and another indy for quotes and see how your quote compares.

Recent (all?) E91's use condition based servicing, and not fixed period (eg yearly) servicing. However, accepted wisdom is that it's wise to change oil and oil filter at least every 10,000 miles rather than wait for the OBC to tell you to get it done. It's important to use oil that meets BMW's specification (5W-30 LL04 IIRC).

You do have a micro-filter, and an air filter, and a fuel filter, and brake fluid, and coolant fluid. And they all need changing at regular intervals, that is if you want your car to run properly.

Check the car's service history and see what is due. If you don't have the history, I'd suggest getting everything done.

always cheaper to supply oil rather than buy at dealers rates.
