Which tyres?

I searched but couldn't find much. My fronts need replacing. Can't afford winters at the moment so going for summer tyres and put up with the consequences.

Criteria -
Non RFT
Noise/Fuel/Wear orientated not performance
Available in 225/40/18 and 255/35/18
Good value, not looking for high end tyres. Solid mid range.

Cars a workhorse diesel estate not a performance car, hence the focus on comfort, quietness and fuel efficiency, and something that's going to last.

What's everyone's recommendations?

You might not be looking for winters but you can pick them up pretty cheap... I got a set of 4 255 40 20 on Ebay for £245, part worn but still with 6mm of tread on them Pierelli Scorpion so its definitley worth having a look...

If you eventually do go for Summer tyres, stay clear of Nexen n8000... Good enough tyre but the wears shocking... had them on the rear about 3 months and there down to 4mm, and to be fair i've not been throwing the car about, just general driving

Wont be buying them again

By mid range, I was thinking the main brands, just not the top tyres. £100ish for the fronts?

I Run Dunlop Sp Sport Maxx TT in the sizes above and pay £120 for fronts and £180 rears each!

Grip is good in wet and dry, the wear is very good also, fronts have done 10k and have 5mm ish left on them..

Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas are excellent for the money. £82 each for the fronts from lovetyres.com.

A lot of people on here run them, do a search and there's plenty of info. I have them on my 335i and they are excellent.

My opinion... your better buying a top rated mid range tyre, than a Main branded not so highly rated tyre... you'll pay more money because of the name for an 'ok' performance... when you could pay probably about the same or less and get a good mid range tyre

Go on to www.tyrereviews.co.uk and get a look on there... lots of different opinions on tyres depending on the car type etc

Each to there own tho but thats the way i look at it

Was looking at the Sport Maxx but was unsure if they'd be more sport orientated.

Will have a look at the Vreds.

Nokian

Nokian - Finnish manufacturer: their tyres (both summer and winter) have done really well in independent tests.

I bought a set and they were the best I had used in terms of noise, standing water clearance and ride. Wholeheartedly recommended.

No don't use Barum tyres. Our work vans (BT so run a few thousand) have these fitted now, and have had issues with bulges and tread ripping off..... We've all had to go to a tyre workshop to have them checked. Not good...

Had a full set of Hankooks fitted 3 weeks ago ride is a lot better than Bridgestone RFT tyres

But really impressed with the grip in the wet

Heard somewhere that hankooks are fitted to some 1 series from the factory now
