I got a misfire after about 25k miles on my current plugs, so i figured it was time. As I was changing the plugs today, plug #3 had oil on the top and into the threads. The other 5 were clean. I know that the valve cover gasket gets leaky and can cause this, but as I was inspecting, it looked like the oil was simply spillover from the oil fill at the top. The only oil seen was directly below it around plug #3. Plus, wouldn't it be weird to have a leaky gasket around ONLY 1 plug?

Thoughts? Anyone have anything like this before?

Not strange at all for a gasket to start leaking in a single location. Although, I would just clean the area up really well and put some miles on it before doing anything. From the sound of it, I'd attribute it to spill over.

Sounds like spill over, but could also be a leaking VCG. So long as there isn't oil on the electrode, it isn't a critical issue. Wipe it off and re-inspect in the near future.

As an aside, car runs much smoother with new plugs. I won't wait 25k again... Not that it ran bad, just smoother acceleration at wot now...

I had had the exact same thing when I changed my plugs ~2,000 miles ago. The plug from number 3 was dripping oil from the threads and all the rest were bone dry. I just put the new plugs in and figured I'd give it a little time then re-check. Just haven't had much time lately to do it lately but I'm going to have a look this weekend.

I had a cracked valve cover which caused an oil leak in just one cyl. Inspect closely around cyl 3 very possible to have a leak in one location make sure the seal is still intact around the oil fill cap. Might just be spillover.

I had the engine running, and was cleaning around the base of the fill cap, afterwards, somehow some oil pooled on top of the plastic oil cap...?!? I just ignored it, couldn't figure out where it came from

I was planning on taking a look this weekend but didn't have a chance. I'm only at 45k, so it really surprised me that something like that was happening on my car. I'll keep you updated should have time to do it this week.

Im at 72 and started getting misfires a few weeks ago, I did plugs in addition to walnut blasting and its amazing how much better the car is after blasting. find a local indy off the forum to do it, well well worth it - i wrote a review with pictures if you search my name
