Not enough Mid Range

Hey there,

I have a HiFi system in my car but replaced all the speakers with Logic7.

I'm still finding there isn't enough Midrange. Anyone have any good solutions?

Get a different amp

Get a different amp (Jl 600/6)
and better speakers.
There are underseats that will play higher and doors that will play lower.
Even with that asking 4 inch speakers to bridge the gap between the 8 inch floors is a little bit of a stretch.

You replaced 4 ohm speakers with 2 ohm speakers. Your amp will likely die as a result. You have also upgraded yourself into a corner. You need to look at a new amp but even then I would not expect there to be more midrange. MS-8 could be an option for you, and give you great sound out of those speakers, but read about the quirks you could potentially encounter with this unit.

IMO a xd600/6 will make a bigger difference than an ms8. The ms8 doesn't have enough power and there are too many other problems with it.

I beg to differ, throwing more power at it is not the right approach here. The L7 OEM 4" component speakers can only handle about 30-40W RMS a piece, which is just about what the ms8 will deliver. They are highly efficient, and will get plenty loud with less power than aftermarket speakers. But even more important than power is proper EQ and T/A, which can only be done with a processor. Without that, you are left with a shitty sound stage, and a peaky response curve that looks like the Swiss alps. Amplification alone will only make the mountains taller, and the valleys deeper.

I thought the original hifi speakers were 2 ohms. And the replacement L7 speakers were 4 ohms.

FYI

http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1266451970

According to the above document Hi Fi is 2 ohm Top Hi Fi is
4 ohm.
So 12 to 18 watts with an ms-8 , 75 watts with a jL xd series on single channels.

Also this would reduce the volume for a stock hi fi amp.

Yes, plus the Hifi mids have been measured at 3 ohm DC resistance, which would point to a 4 ohm nominal impedance. For 2 ohm impedance, a speaker's VC should measure below 2 ohms!

I have to disagree with that. Logic 7 speakers can definetly handle some extra power, and headroom is very important for SQ. I agree that a processor will increase the sound quality, but IMO headroom is more important and the eq is pretty much flat when coded to hifi anyways.

Also since we are discussing impedance, logic 7 speakers measure at 2.3 ohms. I've always considered them 3 ohm speakers. At 3 ohms the ms8 only puts out about 25 watts.
