How do you reset "Service Engine Soon" light?

Sup guys,

I'm not referring to the general routine service maintenance light. I know how to reset that one. What I am referring to is the check engine light. I replaced a bad coil which fixed a misfire in cylinder 5 but the check engine light continues to stay on. I drove the car around a bit but still nothing. I considered disconnecting the battery cable but read it would have no effect.

I did a search but all I find is how to reset the general routine service maintenance light.

Any help would b greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

It should reset after a couple of driving cycles. If it doesn't you need to read the code and clear it with a code reader...

Drove the car about 3 times today. Does it generally take longer than that?

You need a coding setup or BavTool

You need a coding setup or BavTool
To reset some errors . There is a possibilty there is another
error causing the problem or that its still there.
You could go to an Indy with and autologic setup to clear it.
For a coding setup look here

I have been thru a couple coils. I go to autozone or advance, they tell me which cylinder is misfiring, i replace the coil and go back and have them reset the code if it hasn't turned itself off. Free.

I did that very thing earlier today, the guy behind the counter told me they only scan codes, they don't reset it.

I usually pull the codes myself at Autozone or Advance Auto. If they let us use the tool, you could reset it. The tool itself is very self explanatory.

Get an old android device.
Buy a BT OBDII dongle for $25
Get "Torque" from the Playstore.

You now have a diagnostic tool better than almost anything you can buy on the market.
Resets codes, realtime logging, etc.

Which BT OBDII dongle did you get? I see a lot of them and on Torque they have specific ones they tested but are $150+. Thanks.

Sometimes Advance and other shops will give you a hard time about resetting an active light/code because it's a liability for them. it's an opening for a law suit if your car breaks down and they're the reason you weren't aware of a code.

Either buy a cheap code reader/scanner to read and delete codes, or invest in a Bavtool which will pay for itself over time for sure

Could you explain how to clear the CEL with Inpa?
Thanks

Also I thought Inpa doesn't work with 2008+ BMW..... I couldn't get the airbags test to work but NCS worked for coding
